A substance is an element, or one type of atom, and compound, which is two or more atoms chemically combined. For example, carbon or carbon dioxide (the bubbles in soda).
A solution is two or more elements or compounds evenly mixed together, usually one is a liquid. For example, sugar and water or salt and water.
