How does the movement of tectonic plates cause deformation in rock?

The plate tectonics will have contact from rock to rock. This results in the natural disaster that we call as earthquakes, and tsunamis in sea water. This is the actual movement of the plates that can cause the rock to deform greatly - depending on the severity of the disaster.
