a) Infants
b) Toddlers

Steps taken to develop healthy menu for an Infant:-

  • For a baby, breast milk is best.
  • It has all the necessary vitamins and minerals.
  • Infant formulas are available for babies whose mothers are not able to or decide not to breastfeed.
  • Infants are usually ready to eat solid foods at about 6 months of age
  • Mix cereals and mashed cooked grains with breast milk, formula, or water to make it smooth and easy for  baby to swallow.
  • Mash or puree vegetables, fruits and other foods until they are smooth.
  • Hard fruits and vegetables, like apples and carrots, usually need to be cooked so they can be easily mashed or pureed.

Steps taken to develop healthy menu for a toddler:-

  • Eat as a family and make mealtimes happy occasions.
  • Let toddler decide how much to eat.
  • Offer foods from the four main food groups each day.
  • Establish a routine for mealtimes.
  • Offer plenty of healthy drinks during the day.
  • Give vitamins A, C and D each day.

Steps taken to develop healthy menu for a children:-

  • Always provide food at the meal that  child likes (bread, fruit) in addition to the new food.
  • Plan healthy snacks a few times during the day to help meet nutritional needs.
  • Provide a calm, relaxed meal time.
  • Introduce one new food at a time.
  • Include a small portion of a new food and serve everyone at the table the same food, unless food allergies are a concern.
  • Provide adequate time for eating especially if child is working on self-feeding skills.
  • Encourage socialization with everyone at the table during meal time.
