What has been the role of the judicial branch in "making a more perfect union"?

The Supreme Court has made many decisions that have affected the direction that this country. Some of the decisions have not been acceptable to many citizens, but most have been in the best interests of the growth of the American nation. So even though the judicial branch has made some mistakes, overall it has done good things for us and helped create "a more perfect union".
