First you order them from least to greatest.

5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 12

Then you cross off one number from each side until you get to the middle

Medial = 9
A median is the middle number of a data set. 
To find it put the numbers in order. 
5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 12
Then find the middle number
5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 12

The answer is 9
