In the poem gods grandeur we find the words reck and rod

I believe that those two words evoke a Biblical idea of tools of correction.
God has to 'reck his rod' in order to change people who have become corrupted over the years. Humans also have to fear God if they go down the wrong path because he made them to be good and kind, so if something goes wrong, they should be corrected.
