A random sample is a sample that gives every member of the population an equal chance of being selected.

An example to illustrate a random sample is when you have to choose from a hat or a box the names of only 25 employees from a company that has 250 employees. The population here is all 250 employees and the all have equal chances of being selected. Therefore, this is a random sample.
