Two numbers total 46 and have a difference of 14. Find the two numbers

x+y=46  x-y=14

x+y=x-y+60  (46 + 14 = 60)
subtract x from both sides  (y= -y + 60)
add y to both sides  (2y=60)
Divide both sides by 2 and you get that y = 30

x + y = 46
x + 30 = 46  now subtract 30 from both sides
x= 16  y = 30

And the difference between them is 14
