Two SUVs head toward each other from opposite ends of a freeway 460 kilometers long. If the speed of the first SUV is 49 kilometers per hour and the speed of the second SUV is 43 kilometers per hour, how long will it take before the SUVs pass each other?

The distance covered by a moving object is calculated through multiplying the speed and the time it takes to cover the distance. In this item, we let x be the time. The distances covered by the two vehicles are as follows,

       SUV A = 49x
        SUV B = 43x

These distances should add up to 460 km. Thus,
              
           49x + 43x = 460 

The value of x from the equation is 5 hours.

Answer: 5 hours
