The sum of 2 numbers is 19 the difference between them is 7. what are the 2 numbers?

Let's make this into an equation
x+(x-7)=19
We combine like terms which would give us
2x-7=19
Now we add 7 to both side to cancel it out
2x-7+7=19+7
2x=26
Now we solve for x
Divide both sides by 2 to isolate x
2x/2=26/2
x=13
We are not done yet.
One number is equal to 13 according to the equation. We have to replace x for 13.
So x+(x-7)=19. --->> 13+(13-7)=19
13+6=19
19=19
So the two numbers are 13 and 6
