6 x 0.2 = 1.2

 the discount would be $1.20


the cake would cost:  6 - 1.20 = $4.80

so first u want to understand that 20% off is equivalent to 0.8. then u can just mutiply 0.8 and 6 dollars together. then the solution will be $4.8. so total discount will be 6-4.8 which is $1.2
