The Nile River provided transportation, food (fish), and silt for farming. The Desert Kept Egypt isolated from the rest of the world, which was good because it kept out invaders but bad because they couldn't trade until later.
Where there were rivers and waterfalls, that's where people built their civilization. This area was good for farming and could also attract animals. The desert would have little civilization because of how hot and dry it is.
