Scientific knowledge is generally considered to have a positive effect on society. In which way can scientific knowledge have a negative effect on society?

In a couple of ways,

For example a scientific knowledge to create mass murdering weapons. Society will be a lot better if all people in the world dont have these.

The negative effect could also be found in environmental damage, such as carbon monoxide pollution, a nuclear hazard in cernobyl, etc
